Remembered for a While: A Companion to Nick Drake.
Nick Drake's sister, Gabrielle Drake, recently released a biography about his life, but one unlike any other which has been seen. The compilation of essays, diary entries, musical pages and pictures framed his life as he did his own- through the those he loved and through his music. He suffered with depression in his life, beginning from the point where his success hadn't been as blatant as he had hoped and continuing on until the end of his tragically short life.
This session filled with memories, music and adoration was touching to say the least. The Caught by the River tent was filled with melancholy and reflection as this session played out. The most touching moment being when a guitarist called Daisy played a version of Nick's earliest songs in Spanish on his guitar. The entire group watched, entirely mesmerised, and exploded into applause when she had finished. Gabrielle seemed especially moved, as she heard a different, but still beautiful, version of a song she has undoubtedly heard countless times before.
Capturing the feel of Nick's life through the stories which were told was emotional enough, but to have his soul presented so clearly and beautifully through the range of musicians on show touched every single person in that tent.
